UK Labour MP Tulip Siddiq has refuted claims that her uncle and former prime minister Hasina organized a story while denying information of any arrest subpoena for her in Bangladesh.
Siddiq’s attorneys put out a declaration in which they claimed Ms. Siddiq is unaware of any arrest permit that is said to have been issued and that she is unaware of a hearing in Dhaka involving her. To be clear, there is no evidence to support any claims brought against her, and there is no conclusive evidence to support any claim that she received a plot of land in Dhaka through illegal means.
Siddiq, a sitting Labour MP, would become a wanted in a foreign legal case following the arrest warrant. The Daily Mail reported that this would also open the door for Bangladeshi officials to find her extradition. The UK and Bangladesh do not already have an extradition convention.
