Social media giant Meta is set to go on trial in Washington on Monday, facing major US authorities allegations that it cheated Instagram and WhatsApp before posing as rivals.
The test in a Washington federal prosecutor furthers Mark Zuckerberg‘s fears that the government would halt efforts to enforce antitrust laws against Big Tech in the wake of Donald Trump’s returning to office.
The FTC, the powerful US consumer protection regulator, is handling the Meta circumstance, which could force Facebook’s CEO to sell Instagram and WhatsApp, both of which have grown to be world powerhouses since their purchaseout.
Judge James Boasberg, who is also presiding over a well-known case involving White House orders to arrest Citizens using military law, did preside over the trial and decide its outcome.
During the first Trump presidency, Meta’s case was originally scheduled to be filed in December 2020, with all eyes on whether or not he did approach the FTC.
