The United States Geological Survey ( USGS ) reported no injuries or damage after a magnitude 5. 6 earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on Wednesday.
According to the USGS, the quake off the coast of the island of Mindanao had a depth of 30 kilometers ( 18.6 miles ).
The epicenter is located 43 kilometers south of the city of Maitum, which is situated in a rocky and sparsely populated area, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Local authorities informed AFP that early evidence suggested the earthquake had not caused any significant damage.
It lasted well but didn’t last long. We have looked, but the results were negative ( for casualties or damage ),” said Gilbert Rolifor, a member of the Maitum fire department.
The Philippines, which is located along the Pacific” Ring of Fire,” a ridge of severe seismic and volcanic exercise that extends from Japan to Southeast Asia and the Pacific lake, is a normal sight.
Powerful and destructive quakes occur at random and without any technology to forecast when and where they will occur. Most are too fragile to be felt by people.
