A previous public health national and Democratic candidate for governor of Michigan made an appearance on Thursday in the race for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat.
The 40-year-old Abdul El-Sayed is the next Democrat to enter the midterm elections in what could be one of the most enjoyed races in 2026. He’s likewise the next candidate to build a campaign against Republican Senator Gary Peters, who isn’t running for reelection this year.
He told The Associated Press,” It’s way too hard to live here in the richest, most powerful country in the world, and it shouldn’t be this hard to get by.” Senator Bernie Sanders supported El-Sayed as a liberal Democrat in his 2018 campaign. In the Democratic primary, he lost to Gretchen Whitmer by more than 20 points and lost to Shri Thanedar, who is now US official, by more than 12 items.
