MEXICO CITY: A US senior was tragically shot after he hijacked a small passenger plane in Belize on Thursday, authorities in Belize and the US have confirmed.
After the plane carrying 14 people and two crew members landed properly, authorities in Belize identified the man as Akinyela Taylor.
Chester Williams, Trinidad police director, said that Taylor wielded a knife and stabbed three people on the airplane. Those individuals were eventually taken to the hospital to address their injuries.
Williams said that Taylor was shot by a customer who was licensed to have a rifle, which he afterwards turned over to authorities. The rider was among those stabbed and remains in critical situation as he was stabbed in the back and breathing, according to the police director.
U. S. Embassy director Luke Martin confirmed that Taylor was a U. S. member. He said U. S. authorities did not know the reason or purpose but were working with Belizean government.
