On Friday, US President Donald Trump defended the contentious imprisonment of Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported past month despite a court order preventing him from being deported.
Trump said in a picture of Abrego Garcia’s allegedly painted hands,” This is the side the Democrats feel may be brought back to the United States, because he is such a good and honest man.” Even though he has MS-13 tattooed onto his hands, they claim he is certainly a part of MS-13. I may be permitted to carry out my duties. MAKE AMERICA GREAT THAN AGAIN!
Trump’s comments came amid resurgent social unrest following the release of new photos of Abrego Garcia, who appeared to be relaxed and smiling while sipping cocktails with Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen in El Salvador.
El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, who made fun of earlier says that Abrego Garcia was being tortured, posted the photos on X, saying:” Kilmar Abrego Garcia, unexpectedly risen from the “death camps” andamp; abuse, then sipping cocktails with Sen. Van Hollen.
However, Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration more harshly and stated that” Sleepy Joe Biden, THE WORST Executive IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, has allowed millions and millions of Criminals, many of whom are murderers, drug dealers, and persons released from prison and intellectual organizations from all around the world, to provide our country through its very dangerous and poorly conceived Open Border. Sorry, but I have the power to remove these criminals and thugs from this place. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO, TODAY. MAGA”!
Despite a current US immigration court’s order to prevent his removal, Abrego Garcia, 29, was deported on March 15. His attorneys contend that due process and international law were violated by the deportation. Although a lower court’s ruling has been upheld, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted on Wednesday that” Abrego Garcia will never live in the United States of America” and that she had been accused of domestic violence and of having ties to MS-13, the US Supreme Court has upheld the ruling.
His wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, has refuted those claims, claiming that the restraining order cited by Leavitt was filed “out of caution” and later resolved through counseling. After meeting Abrego Garcia on Thursday, Van Hollen said,” This is about the rule of law and due process.” ” We won’t give up until Kilmar is granted his constitutional rights.”
Senator Van Hollen’s trip to El Salvador was reportedly halted by Salvadoran officials, who allegedly refused to let him enter the high-security CECOT prison. Additionally, El Salvador’s Vice President, Félix Ulloa, criticized a detainee’s request for release, claiming that his government has no plans to return him.
Rep. Robert Garcia called the case” a constitutional crisis,” citing the Trump administration’s disregard for legal standards. Sen. Cory Booker and Rep. Maxwell Frost are among the Democratic delegation members who are preparing to visit El Salvador to assess Abrego Garcia’s situation.
Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers have praised the deportation. Reps. Riley Moore and Jason Smith toured the CECOT prison to show their support for Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants. In addition to defending its policy, the administration has cited a number of past crimes committed by Salvadorans in the US, including Rachel Morin’s murder in 2023.
