On Wednesday evening, Indian-American male Kevin Patel, 28, was fatally shot in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, causing calls for greater protection and increased policing there.
The shooting took place in the 800 block of West Lill Avenue, only steps from Timmy Knudsen’s office, according to the Chicago Police Department, about 9:20 p.m. When officers received calls for gunshots, they discovered Patel lying on the road with a bullet wound to the stomach. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he eventually died. The Office of the Cook County Medical Examiner established his personality.
Witnesses reported seeing a male and a girl fleeing the scene before the police arrived. Area Three police are looking into the situation because there haven’t been any arrests thus far.
Local residents were left agitated by the deadly shooting. Patel’s determined attempts were described by Garrett Moores, a neighbor who intervened right away. He said,” I grabbed napkins and ran over.” Moores and another neighbor performed neck vibrations while being led by a 911 controller. In those circumstances, you about develop a personal relationship. He continued,” It was devastating”.
Another native of Lincoln Park, Sophia Matheson, called the violence’s contact unsettling. It’s the closest I’ve always been bodily to dying, she said,” only a discovery of how fast it can be taken away from you.” The fact that that person’s home must receive that call is devastating.
Alderman Knudsen responded to the dying by issuing a statement outlining the urgency of tackling the rise in crime. This serves as yet another example of the work we must do as a capital to fight violence. He stated that he has asked the 19th District to raise guards in the area.
The event has rekindled worries about public health in one of Chicago’s busiest communities as investigators work to detect suspects.
