Two weeks before their organized visit to Israel and the Palestinian lands, 27 European politicians and local authorities were informed on Sunday that their entry visa had been revoked.
The party, which included people of France’s left-wing ecology and communist events, said the journey was meant to promote international cooperation and harmony, reported media company AFP.
The European embassy in Jerusalem had invited the politicians for a five-day official program. But, Israel’s interior government cancelled their visa under a law that allows officials to bar people considered a threat to national passions.
Among those banned were national council representatives Francois Ruffin, Alexis Corbiere, Julie Ozenne, communist assistant Soumya Bourouaha, and lawmaker Marianne Margate. Other members included politicians and local elected representatives. In a joint statement, they described the move as “collective punishment ” and a “major rupture in diplomatic ties. ”
They urged European leader Macron to listen and maintain Israel reversed its decision. The lawmakers also noted that their political parties have long supported Arab sovereignty, which Macron lately appeared to support. He said France may accept a Palestinian condition as early as June during an international mountain.
This is not an isolated event. Earlier this month, Israel deported two American MPs at Tel Aviv aircraft. In February, two left-wing European congress people were likewise barred. Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly opposed foreign goes to recognise Israeli independence, calling them a prize for violence.
