Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on X that with the help of President Donald Trump, the State Department is suddenly “reversing decades of fat and government. ” Rubio posted his formal declaration on X with the following statement: “Today is the day. Under @POTUS’ authority and at my way, we are reversing years of fat and government at the State Department. These striking changes will enable our gifted diplomats to set America and Americans first. ”
“ In its current form, the Department is bloated, bureaucratic, and unable to perform its essential diplomatic mission in this new era of essential diplomatic competition, ” Rubio’s formal statement reads in part, noting that the State Department’s footprint has had “unprecedented growth ” with soaring costs. All the while, the American citizens have seen “less effective and efficient politics. ”
“That is why now I am announcing a thorough reform program that will bring the Department into the 21st Century. This strategy will enable the Department from the ground up, from the bureaus to the diplomats, ” the statement continued, as Rubio added that “region-specific functions will be consolidated to improve efficiency, duplicate offices will be removed, and non-statutory programs that are misaligned with America’s key national interests will cease to exist. ”
