On Wednesday, a few states sued President Donald Trump over his taxes, arguing that he has no authority to “arbitrarily impose taxes as he has done around,” in addition to the majority of them led by Democrats.
The claims are asking the judge to stop the Trump presidency from enforcing what they claim are unlawful tariffs, claiming that just Congress has the authority to regulate them.
The lawsuit claimed that” These edicts reflect a national trade policy that now depends on the president’s whims rather than the effective exercise of his legal authority.” The claims are the most recent events to bring the Trump administration in court over tariffs, including New York and Oregon. California filed its personal lawsuit last year, contending that the country’s economy has been “immediately and irreparably damaged” by the country’s economic crisis.
We don’t have the pleasure of standing by when a leader pushes an unconstitutional legislation that raises utility bills and raises prices at the grocery store, said lead plaintiff Dan Rayfield, attorney general of Oregon.
A WH spokesman described the lawsuit as a “witch chase” by Democrats against Trump.
