The US could launch military actions against Iran if an agreement with Iran to curtail its nuclear program proves inconvenient, according to President Donald Trump in an interview released on Friday.
Trump made the comments during a Time magazine meeting to discuss his first three months in office as US and Iranian officials convened for a second straight Saturday to discuss a deal that would stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump responded to a question about whether he was concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may entice him into a conflict with Iran. If we don’t reach a bargain, I’ll be in charge.
Trump has stated that despite the fact that officials on both sides have certainly found a solution, he believes the talks between the US and Iran are moving properly.
Iranian leaders have rejected Netanyahu’s request, which he has made open to geopolitics if it leads to the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear program. Some Israeli leaders have expressed concern that the US might consent to a package that leaves some of Iran’s nuclear weapons in place.
Trump, who reportedly expressed support for trying to negotiate an agreement with Iran second, held up by NYT, who reported last week that Israel had planned an attack on Iranian nuclear sites. Trump claimed that he did not prevent Israel from attacking Iran but that he “didn’t make it comfortable for them.” Trump also stated that he was willing to meet with Masoud Pezeshkian, the country’s president, or Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, its highest leader.
