The White House pushed up against Sen. Martin Heinrich’s (D-NM) censure of President Donald Trump’s visit to restore the regional party of Columbus Day, posting an classic clip from The Sopranos television set.
Trump announced on Sunday that he would take up Columbus Day, the following Monday in October, to observe Christopher Columbus discovering the United States, “back from the ashes. ” On Monday morning, Heinrich, who previously advocated reframing the holiday as “Indigenous Peoples ’ Day, ” wrote on X that Trump’s push for Columbus Day would not be recognized in New Mexico. The White House’s Rapid Response X account responded with a clip of Tony Soprano ( James Gandolfini ) discussing the explorer.
“[Columbus ] discovered America is what he did, ” Soprano states in the clip. “ He was a valiant Italian adventurer, and in this apartment, Christopher Columbus is a hero. End of story! ”
The Sopranos, which aired for six months between 1999 and 2007, focuses on Soprano, an Italian-American who lives in New Jersey and tries to balance his home life with his job as a crowd manager.

Former President Joe Biden became the first U. S. president to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day in 2021 and issued similar assertions throughout his administration. He even recognized Columbus Day.
On Truth Social, Trump lamented how Democrats did “everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, ” including having his figures “torn over. ” Nevertheless, he wrote that the European explorer had “make a big return, ” good referring to this year’s Columbus Day party on Oct. 13.
