DHAKA: The interim government’s decision to not challenge earlier printed documents has seemingly caused the central bank of Bangladesh to suffer a significant financial loss. Around Taka 15, 000 million of paper notes featuring the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are still in use. The government’s efforts to lessen Bangabandhu’s appearance in public memory are aligned with the decision.
Some people, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claim that the long-standing tradition of getting fresh information from Bangladesh Bank has abruptly been ended, creating a business crisis. Bank officials are unwilling to discuss the issue publicly. The printed cash is being wasted without usage, they continued, while customers are also suffering as a result, they continued.
” Notes of various denominations are printed on paper and ink that were purchased with taxpayers ‘ funds. Thousands of notes featuring Bangabandhu’s image are also abound in the bank vaults of different banks. The Security Printing Corporation is unable to display fresh information all at once. Information in Bangabandhu’s picture can’t be abruptly cancelled, so Ziauddin Ahmed, former executive director of Bangladesh Bank and past managing director of Security Printing Corporation, told reporters.
He suggested that the printed information be made available on the market in this way to lessen common suffering. The older ones may be gradually withdrawn when new style papers enter the market. According to Ahmed, records that were printed again can be used for up to four to five years.
According to reports in the media, Bangladesh Bank is unable to provide fresh notes to banks in line with desire. Following the region’s political revolution in August of last year, the issue became clear.
Since Mujibur’s image is prominent on all forms of currency, including copper coins, Bangladesh Bank instantly stopped issuing new information in early April. In consequence, the papers featuring Bangabandhu’s style are not being sold. Citizens, institutions, and stores now have torn and dirty information on them.
The Security Printing Corporation is scheduled to begin printing novel style papers next month, according to resources at Bangladesh Bank. New style information in the quantities of 20, 50, and 1, 000 baht may be printed in the first step and then distributed through institutions to the public.
