Following the escalating hostility between India and Pakistan following the death of 26 people in the Pahalgam evil event, Muslim FM radio stations stopped playing Indian music on Thursday.
According to PBA Secretary General Shakeel Masood, PTI news agency reported,” The Pakistan Broadcasters Association ( PBA ) has immediately stopped airing Indian songs on Pakistani FM radio stations across the country.”
Pakistani people often enjoy Indian music, especially those by renowned artists like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh, which are featured daily on nearby FM radio stations.
Given the current state of diplomatic relations, Pakistan’s information secretary Atta Tarar backed the PBA’s decision despite claims that the authorities had ordered the association to stop broadcasting American songs on all FM stations.
After 26 people were killed, mostly travelers, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, the relationship between India and Pakistan deteriorated.
In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag region, where jihadists opened fire on April 22 and generally killed visitors, the attack took place in Baisaran, a picturesque holiday destination in the area.
The Resistance Front ( TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba ( LeT ), claimed the attack, which was the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, and targeted mostly tourists. Afterwards, TRF denied being a part of the attack.
Foreign leaders immediately condemned the invasion and praised India while denouncing extremism.
India took a number of punitive measures against Pakistan following the incident, including the expulsion of the Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Attari border passing, and a reduction in diplomatic relations as a result of the attack’s cross-border ties.
On Wednesday, India also made its aircraft available to Muslim aircraft operations.
Tarar wrote to the PBA in a letter expressing his gratitude for the nationalist movement, which “reflects the attitude of the whole country.”
He noted that the Bangladeshi FM channels ‘ decision to ban American music demonstrated that” we all stand united in supporting national cohesion and supporting core principles during these tests periods.”
