'It's what they deserve!': Donald Trump vows to strip Harvard of tax-exempt status

US President Donald Trump made the announcement on Friday that he would remove Harvard University’s prestigious Ivy League entity from its tax-exempt status in the middle of a deepening conflict. The action is the most recent in a line of actions taken by the Trump presidency against prestigious universities.
” We are going to get removing Harvard’s Tax Exempt Status.” It’s what they merit,” they claim. Trump posted on Truth Social, though he did not specify a deadline for the implementation of the estimate.
The President had likewise stated earlier this week that his administration does stop funding Harvard, more igniting the rhetorical conflict between the White House and the school.
Harvard has been specifically targeted by the Trump administration because of accusations of racism linked to pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college. These demonstrations came into existence as a result of Israel’s military activities in Gaza following the Arab Hamas militants ‘ October 2023 attack.
The administration has increased its actions in recent days, initiating a proper evaluation of Harvard’s almost$ 9 billion revenue, according to the Reuters. Additionally, it has urged that universities outlaw diversity, equity, and inclusion ( DEI ) programs, as well as impose stricter restrictions on pro-Palestinian organizations and the use of masks during protests.
Harvard, nevertheless, has clearly resisted. The school rejected a number of the government’s demands in the beginning of April, describing them as an assault on academic freedom and free speech. It reiterated its commitment to preventing discrimination on campus by bringing a lawsuit against the Trump administration after$ 2.3 billion in federal funding was suspended.
The administration has also issued a warning about funding cuts to other educational institutions, citing issues like pro-Palestinian demonstrations, La policies, climate change, and transgender rights.
Fighting organizations have accused the management of comparing criticism of Israel’s military operations to antisemitism and of using advocacy for Israeli rights as a stoke to extremism, including some Jewish organizations.
