KAMPALA: Bobi Wine, the country’s top opposition leader, claimed on Friday that the army had taken him to his party’s office after the army’s head had raped and tortured him “in his basement.”
In addition to the general election in January, there has been a growing assault on the opposition, and the movements come as Wines was scheduled to launch a “protest ballot” campaign.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the head of the army and the son of long-ruling President Yoweri Museveni, reported on X late on Thursday that Eddie Mutwe, Product’s companion, had been “like a beetle” as he was” captured like a cockroach.”
Kainerugaba, who is renowned for his infamous articles on X, responded to Wine after he claimed Mutwe had been abducted by him on social media.
Kainerugaba even made an alleged allegation that Mutwe had been tortured, claiming that he had punched and shaved his head. He remarked of the opposition,” We will discipline them even more if they keep provoking us.”
The violence of criticism figures, including former leader Kizza Besigye, who was sequestered in Kenya last year and forced to return to experience treason charges, has received international condemnation in Uganda.
Past song Robert Kyagulanyi Wine, who is now known as Robert Kyagulanyi, has become Museveni’s principal adversary in Uganda. He claimed on X on Friday that security forces had” only raided and cordoned off our offices.”
He also blasted Mutwe’s disappearance, calling the incident” a warning to the earth as law and order has broken down in Uganda.”
” The rogue regime has reached a level of impunity,” he said, adding that Muhoozi’s announcement to confirm Eddie Mutwe’s arrest and unlawful confinement and sharing his photographs with him while he was still in his clothes demonstrates this.” A policeman official told AFP that he had not been given any information regarding Mutwe’s situation.
Fiercely kidnapped
Museveni wants to extend his 40-year law in Uganda, and the country is scheduled to hold a standard election in January. The security causes ‘ common reports of irregularities and extreme violence, which Museveni attributed to “indiscipline” and “laziness,” ruined the next election in 2021.
The US-based Holocaust Memorial Museum just issued a warning about potential “mass crimes” in the wake of the vote of 2026. Product’s party, the National Unity Platform, claimed on Sunday that Mutwe had been “violently abducted” by armed men in uniforms belonging to the Special Forces Command, an elite system of Uganda’s troops.
Due to Friday’s attack, the NUP claimed heavily armed security forces had blocked access to its offices in Kampala. In order to encourage Ugandans to cast ballots against the state in the upcoming common election and demonstrate to defend their political rights, the opposition planned to use the HQ to start a campaign.
Kainerugaba’s raw content on X are well known. He threatened to kill Wines earlier this year, and they have since exchanged emails frequently. His remarks have often sparked diplomatic disputes in Uganda. Museveni was forced to apologize for articles that appeared to harm an invasion of Kenya in 2022.
