A 73-year-old Illinois landlord received a 53-year prison word for the fatal stabbing of a 6-year-old Palestinian-American baby and the serious injuries of the boy’s family.
Following the onset of the Israel-Gaza fight in 2023, Joseph Czuba was found guilty of murder and hate acts for killing Wadee Alfayoumi and attacking Hanan Shaheen, his mother, in February, according to BBC News.
The subjects were residing as landlords on Czuba’s residence in Plainfield, which is located about 64 kilometers from Chicago. The prosecutors established that because of their Muslim faith, he had attacked them.
A jury returned a verdict in less than 90 days despite pleading never guilty.
According to NBC News, Wadee Alfayoumi’s excellent brother, Mahmoud Yousef, said that no measure of punishment could effectively deal with the boy’s death at Friday’s court hearing.
He discussed the family’s recollections and future plans for his brother, which Czuba had improperly taken away. The old convict chose to keep quiet because he appeared skinny and frail in his red prison garb.
The victim’s mother testified about the attack’s troubling details, and Czuba’s former wife spoke about his growing animosity toward the war.
According to Hanan Shaheen’s evidence, Czuba had said, “you, as a Muslim, has die.”, according to Reuters.
The trial described how Czuba forcedfully attacked the family with a weapon in their rented accommodation. The younger boy was stabbed 26 times while the family suffered over 12 stab wounds.
The information presented included shocking photos of crime scenes, and police witness claimed that they discovered Czuba outside the home with blood covering his hands and body.
This deadly assault drew attention from all over the world and raised fears about Islamophobia, anti-Muslim prejudice, and anti-Palestinian mood.
The fresh victim had just celebrated his fifth day a few days before he passed away.
Ahmed Rehab, the senior director of CAIR’s Chicago business, recalled the boy’s devotion to his family, friends, and activities, including football and basketball.
