Ethan Shaotran, a Harvard scholar and scientist interested in artificial intelligence, made headlines after quitting his school studies to work for the US federal under President Donald Trump.
Shaotran currently serves as a member of the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), under the leadership of Elon Musk, where he collaborates with a team of six young engineers, the majority between the ages of 19 and 24.
According to the Designed, the group includes Shaotran, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Akash Bobba.
These engineers have access to sensitive government data in key positions at federal agencies like the Office of Personnel Management ( OPM) and the General Services Administration ( GSA ).
Ethan Shaotran, a 22-year-old DOGE part, addressed the reaction he faced after leaving Harvard in a film that was shared online.
I left Harvard and came around to serve my country. And it’s terrible to see friends being shattered. He told Fox News,” The majority of the campus hates me now.”
Shaotran said he continues to be committed to the work despite the criticism. Through interactions like this, he said,” I hope people realize that transformation is actually needed.”

Ethan Shaotran: Who is He?
Before joining the state, Shaotran was well-known for his research in artificial intelligence. He founded Energize AI, a professional scheduling assistant, which received a$ 100,000 offer from OpenAI in 2023.
He also published a paper on autonomous systems at Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ( SEAS ).
In 2020, he graduated from Palo Alto, California’s Gunn High School.
Shaotran had been “working on automatic cars” at Harvard’s Edge Computing Lab, which is likely where Musk, who has long been focused on self-driving systems at Tesla, catches his interest.
