On Saturday, Anthony Albanese made history as the first Australian prime minister to win a second consecutive term in 21 years. The dramatic return against once-resurgent liberals, which was motivated by citizens ‘ issues about the impact of US President Donald Trump, came on the heels of that victory.
Peter Dutton, the leader of the traditional Liberal party, accepted defeat and the loss of his own seat, a move that was consistent with Pierre Poilievre and the republicans ‘ leader, whose election loss days earlier were likewise attributed to a Trump reaction.
Dutton was referred to as” DOGE-y Dutton” by Albanese’s center-left Labor Party, who accused the Liberals of imitating Trump and his government’s executive branch.
As Albanese claimed victory and said his party would form a majority government, followers at Labor’s election celebration in Sydney cheered and hugged one another. We don’t need to beg, borrow, or backup from anywhere else because” Australians have chosen to confront global challenges the way they do, tower for the future.” We don’t turn to foreigners for creativity. We find it in our people and ideals,” said Albanese.
Dutton claimed to have called Albanese to say he was pleased with him.
