S. Jaishankar, the head of foreign affairs at NEW DELHI, spoke with Sergey Lavrov’s rival from Russia on Friday about the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 life.
The two ministers even discussed the schedule of future links at the highest levels, according to the Russian foreign government.
On April 22, gunmen attacked unarmed travellers who were taking in the spectacular beauty of “mini Switzerland.” The Resistance Front ( TRF), a proxy for the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba ( LET ), claimed responsibility for the attack, which was the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike. Eventually, TRF denied being a part of the invasion.
The officials discussed bilateral ties between Russia and India and the deterioration of Indian-Pakistani relationships following the terrorist assault in Pahalgam.
According to the terms of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999, Sergey Lavrov demanded that New Delhi and Islamabad resolve their differences bilaterally using political and diplomatic means, according to a declaration from the Russian Federation.
The Central government took a number of diplomatic measures following the terror attack in Pahalgam, including closing the Integrated Check Post ( ICP ) at Attari, suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme ( SVES ), giving Pakistanis 40 hours to travel back to their country, and reducing the number of officers in the High Commissions on both sides.
