BRENHAM: Rescue teams in Texas were searching for a 10-year-old woman who had been swept aside by rapidly rising waters, and experts warned that Tuesday may take more heavy rain and flooding to the Houston region and the state’s beach. On Monday night, teams of people searched the city of Brenham using drones, thermal imaging, and dogs to find the girl. The Brenham Fire Department says the water rescue operation had to be rescheduled as a result of the region’s severe thunderstorms. Around a dozen supporting organizations were helping the department find the girl, who was last seen on Monday at around 4 p.m. The department stated in a social media post that” we are praying for the family and all the first responders involved in the search and rescue” and that “bad weather is on its way.” According to the National Weather Service in Houston, the next round of severe storms could cause as much as 6 inches ( 15 centimeters ) of rain to parts of southeast Texas on Tuesday. Additionally, the weather service issued a warning about a number of dangerous rip currents and flooding along Gulf beaches, particularly at high tides. Early on Tuesday, the state was under a flood watch from the National Weather Service for a significant portion of it, along with parts of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Just last week, storms flooded much of southern Oklahoma and northern Texas, causing hundreds of flights to be canceled or delayed at major airports.
