Trump Bans Federal Gain-of-Function Research Via Executive Order

On May 5, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to stop federal funding for a particular branch of medical study in China and Iran in an effort to stop COVID-19 from spreading.

Trump and other federal agencies have long suggested that the Chinese have a theory that the epidemic started at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Trump told reporters at the White House,” It can leak out innocently, stupidly, and incompetently, and half destroy the world.”

His executive order specifically addressed the removal of the gain-of-function study, which examines how infections become more powerful*. At the Wuhan laboratory, in the town where the first outbreak was reported, the US provided funding for that kind of study.

*Gain-of-function is not the” review of how pathogens become more powerful,” but rather the strategic souping up of viruses to see what happens and, theoretically, to prevent mutations that are almost certainly not to occur in nature.

USA Today omits the disclaimer that” a competing idea is that a man apparently came into contact with an infected animal” in the support of its business &nbsp, and authorities experts.

Right.

However, USA Today’s deceiving gets worse:

The COVID-19 virus “probably emerged and infected humans” &nbsp, through a small exposure by November 2019, with the first cluster of cases in Wuhan, China, according to an unclassified assessment released by the U.S. intelligence community. The agencies disagreed on whether the coverage was caused by a lab exposure or a direct exposure to an infected animal…

According to the intelligence community, Taiwanese authorities didn’t hear about the virus until the original outbreak, and that it wasn’t developed as a biological weapons.

In January, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s overseas ministry, stated that WHO experts found it was “extremely implausible” that a lab leak was to blame for the pandemic.

Ning argued that the United States must cease politicizing and weaponizing origins-tracing and stop using scapegoats against another.

USA Today is quoting State foreign government sources as if they are reliable then, without any impartial verification or even understanding that the CCP has an obvious desire to deny its role in the crisis.

Interesting enough, the article ignores to notice that the CIA finally accepted the reality of the facility leaks in January of this year.

Sec. 5. Manage the risks associated with non-federally funded analysis. The Director of OSTP may develop and implement a strategy to manage, limit, and track unsafe gain-of-function research across the United States that occurs without Federal funding and another life-science research that could have significant socioeconomic effects in accordance with this order in consultation with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, the APNSA, the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, and the heads of other related agencies. This strategy includes steps to conduct thorough, flexible, and verified nucleic acid production screening in non-federally funded settings. Within 180 days of the date of this purchase, the President shall be sent a congressional proposal that addresses any gaps in the government necessary to accomplish the objectives of this approach.
