Following growing bipartisan criticism and concerns about Martin’s skills and wisdom, US president Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he would remove Ed Martin Jr.’s election for district attorney’s office for the district of Columbia. Senator Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina and a part of the senate judiciary committee, received the final blow when he said he couldn’t help Martin because of his defense of the Capitol’s protesters who stormed on January 6, 2021. Trump remarked,” We have something else that will be great,” calling the growth “disappointing” but recognizing that it was a social reality. Martin, a Trump supporter, was a key player in the” Stop the steal” battle and had publicly supported a number of people who were accused of being at the Capitol riot.

More than 100 past DC business prosecutors in public opposed his candidacy, saying it may undermine the agency’s long-standing commitment to justice. Martin also received criticism for sacking or demoting employees working on politically sensitive situations and for disclosing more than 150 performances on Russian-funded media. Despite the support of right-wingers like Charlie Kirk and Elon Musk, Martin’s election immediately sank under the mass of public scrutiny. His momentary employment is scheduled to end on May 20.
