Senator John Cornyn reported on Friday that the US justice department has opened an exploration into a mosque-centered designed cover growth outside of Dallas. In what could be a contentious Democratic primary contest for his own Senate seats, Cornyn will face Texas ‘ hard-right attorney general, Ken Paxton, next month. He is the latest Texas Republican to issue the growth in the small village of Josephine, Texas.
The project has received strong opposition from Democrats, including Governor Greg Abbott, who have accused the managers of attempting to establish an exclusive Arab community and to establish Islamic rules on residents. It is supported by people of the East Plano Islamic Center, a minaret in Plano. Abbott has recently directed a number of state agencies to look into the EPIC City creation, citing concerns that it might have broken fair housing and financial rules.
