A jury in Paris on Tuesday is set to hand down a ruling in the sexual abuse trial of French theatre image Gerard Depardieu, a circumstance that gripped the nation for weeks. As the judgement will resonate with the start of the Cannes Film Festival, it is likely to be among the biggest talking details on the first day of what is one of the major events on the film timeline. Depardieu, who has acted in more than 200 films and television series, is the highest-profile figure caught up in France’s response to the# MeToo movement. He has been accused of poor behavior by about 20 girls, but this is the first event to come to trial. The trial relates to charges of sexual assault during the filming in 2021 of” Les Volets Verts” (” The Green Shutters” ) by director Jean Becker. Nearly two months after the high-profile proceedings, the Paris Criminal Court will deliver its verdict from 10:00 am ( 0800 GMT ) Tuesday.

The defendants are a collection drawer, 54, identified just as Amelie, and a 34-year-old associate chairman, who accuse the comedian of sexual abuse. Just Amelie is expected to be present to discover the ruling. Depardieu, 76, might not be in enrollment. The artist, who had complained that he had been out of work for three years, is set to star in a film directed by his colleague, artist Fanny Ardant. The killing of the images involving Depardieu began in April in the Portuguese island of the Azores.

    Foul-mouthed

In March, direct attorney Jean Guy recommended an 18-month suspended prison sentence for Depardieu, arguing that the attack reported by the two ladies were “intentional”. He said Depardieu should also be ordered to undergo psychological care, and been added to France’s sex offender registry. Amelie said that the artist had behaved like a “wild dog” on established in 2021. Depardieu had boasted he was “give ladies an orgasm without touching them”, she said. She likewise said Depardieu made “obscene notes” including:” Come and feel my big umbrella. I’ll keep it in your lips. ” The comedian has denied sexually assaulting the people. ” I’m vulgar, rude, foul-mouthed, I’ll accept that,” he told the court, but he added:” I don’t touch. “” I adore women and femininity,” he also said, while describing the# MeToo movement as a “reign of terror”. Throughout the trial, Depardieu has been supported by his child Roxane, his ex-partner Karine Silla and professional Vincent Perez. Long-time companion Ardant, 76, testified in his behalf. ” I have not witnessed something that I found surprising,” she said. ” I know that you can say no to Gerard. “

    Discrimination and patriarchy

Attorneys representing the two claimants complained of the pressure in the court and denounced the method of Depardieu’s military team. The director’s lawyer Jeremie Assous called the two ladies “liars” and “hysterical”. They were working for the cause of “rabid feminism”, he argued. Claude Vincent, the secretary author’s lawyer, lamented in her final statement:” What we witnessed was hardly a military technique,” but” an apology for sexism. ” In an open letter, a group of almost 200 French attorneys urged the court to battle what they called court misogyny. Depardieu’s attorney had “used discrimination and sexism to his body’s delight” to undermine the plaintiffs and their legal group, they said. Depardieu has also been indicted in another situation following a murder problem filed by professional Charlotte Arnould, 29. Lawyers have requested a test. In April, French MPs criticised “endemic” maltreatment in the entertainment business after a six-month investigation. Depardieu became a star in France from the 1980s with roles in” The Last Metro”,” Police” and “Cyrano de Bergerac”, before Peter Weir’s” Green Card” also made him a Hollywood celebrity. He later acted in global productions including Kenneth Branagh’s” Hamlet”, Ang Lee’s” Life of Pi” and Netflix’s” Marseille” series.
