Tibet was struck by a magnitude 5.7 disaster in the early hours of Monday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). At a degree of only 10 kilometers, the tremor was recorded. The earthquake’s location was disclosed on X, which the NCS stated occurred at 2:41 a.m. IST, with locations at latitude 29.02 n and west 87.48 e. A smaller 3. 7 magnitude earthquake occurred only days earlier at a similar degree, on May 8. Experts warn that deep earthquakes frequently have more serious effects because of the energy being released closer to the ground, which causes more earth shaking and the potential for destruction. The Tibetan Plateau is extremely seismically active because it is located close to a significant fault line between the collision of the Indian and Asian tectonic plates.

These seismic swings continue to affect the Himalayas. Geophysicist Marianne Karplus told Al Jazeera that while disasters cannot be predicted, academic research and investment in adaptable system are necessary to reduce risk and increase security in weakened areas.
