Joe Tate, a state representative from Michigan, launched his campaign on Sunday to face three different Democrats in a desk that was left open by retiring US Senator Gary Peters. Tate mentioned his parents, who immigrated to Detroit from Alabama as part of the Great Migration, in an appointment with the Associated Press. He said,” I’m running for the US Senate because I want to keep the promise that my parents made when they moved to Michigan.”
