A California-based food producer issued an urgent remember after at least 10 people were hospitalized in the United States as a result of a Listeria pandemic linked to ready-to-eat food items. The outbreak was caused by Fresh and Ready Foods LLC, a San Fernando, California-based company, according to the US Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) along with state and local authorities. Listeria monocytogenes was tested positive for samples taken from the hospital in April and matched the strain found in the affected patients. The 10 cases reported between December and December by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ), with infections spanning across California and Nevada. Six of the individuals were already receiving New and Set Foods products in hospitals, which could be a connection to administrative food services.
