‘We’ll no longer tolerate’: Donald Trump signs executive order giving drugmakers 30 days to slash drug prices

'We'll no longer tolerate': Donald Trump signs executive order giving drugmakers 30 days to slash drug prices

A comprehensive executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday, which will lower prescription drug charges in the US, giving pharmaceutical firms a 30-day date to reduce expenses or face sanctions, was signed. As he signed the executive attempt at the White House, Trump declared to reporters that” we will no longer tolerate profit and cost cutting from Big Pharma” and that medication prices may drop by at least 59 cent, and in some cases as high as 80 or 90 percentage. Under Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s direction, the order directs the health ministry to discuss new medicine prices within a month. If negotiations fail, Kennedy must establish a link between US drug prices and lower global rates. Trump added,” We’re going to normalize. We will all be required to pay the equal. We’re going to spend what Europe pays.” The influence of the Republican government’s executive order on Americans who have private health insurance is still undetermined. Through Medicare and Medicaid, the government has a disproportionate amount of authority to regulate drug costs. House Republicans ‘ news of possible substance cost reductions coincided with their plan to lessen Medicaid money by$ 880 billion. The” Most Favoured Nation” policy’s goal is to get US drug prices to be correlated with the lowest international prices for comparable drugs. Trump said,” Whoever is paying the lowest price, that’s the value that we’re going to pay.” Similar to Trump’s earlier attempt during his first administration, the implementation mostly depends on pharmaceutical companies ‘ willingness to bargain pricing and face legal criticism. Trump criticized the current pricing system, presenting price disparities between the US and Europe, particularly with regard to the weight loss medication Ozempic. Trump claimed that it was the countries that made Big Pharma do things that, to be honest, I don’t know whether they actually felt secure doing, but they managed to get away with it. He announced plans to look into regions that supposedly put pressure on pharmaceutical companies by imposing price restrictions. He acknowledged that” the drug and pharmaceutical lobby is the most powerful lobby in the world,” and that he had previously seen the reduction:” DRUG PRICES TO BE CUT BY 59 %, PLUS! Oil, power, groceries, and all other expenses are all DOWN. NO Prices!!”! he posted on Truth Social. Trump claimed that rising costs for prescription drugs in other countries may be offset by lower expenses in the US. His previous efforts to reduce drug costs are not new. Similar measures were proposed by him during his 2017-2021 name, but they were met with strong opposition from the pharmaceutical industry.
