UN aviation agency blames Russia for Malaysian airliner 2014 MH17 crash in Ukraine in 2014; Kremlin rejects 'biased conclusions'

The Kremlin criticized Russia’s handling of the 2014 chugging of a Malaysian Airlines journey over Ukraine, which the UN aerospace company deemed to be “biased.” The International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO ), based in Montreal, stated in a statement that” Russia failed to uphold its obligations under international air law in the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.” The allegations made by Australia and the Netherlands regarding Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17’s parliament on July 17, 2014, are” well founded in truth and in law.” This is the first time the ICAO has ruled on the material of a disagreement between member nations. Australia and the Netherlands, which lost the most people in the affair, have urged Russia to accept responsibility and pay payment. But, the Kremlin vehemently refrained from making the conclusions. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian government, stated that” Russia was certainly a country that participated in the exploration of this event. We do not so concur with all these erroneous conclusions. On July 17, 2014, a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot along by a BUK weapon made by Russia over the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian secessionists were fighting Russian troops. The customer jet was shot down by a Russian-made BUK surface-to-air weapon over Donetsk, a city where pro-Russian rebels were battling Ukrainian forces, on July 17, 2014. Russia has consistently denied any involvement in the attack. Two-thirds of the victims were made up of Dutch citizens, along with 38 Australians and about 30 Malay. Many of the passengers were two citizens. Petro Poroshenko, the then-Ukrainian president, blasted the incident as a “terrorist act” in the days that followed, while the rebels claimed a Russian military aircraft was to blame. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, even shifted the blame, claiming that Ukraine “bears responsibility.” Barack Obama, the then-US leader, claimed that the weapon was launched from separatist-held place and that it was impossible for the rebels to do so without Russian assistance. A French court sentenced three men to life in prison in 2022 for their jobs in the assault, including two Soviet nationals. Russia forbade their extradition. Eventually, in 2023, an international team of researchers discovered” strong signs” that President Putin had privately approved the supply of the weapon used to take down the aircraft. Researchers halted their investigation into the 2014 chugging of the Malaysian aircraft last year because there was insufficient evidence to identify further suspects. Andrii Sybiha, the foreign secretary of Ukraine, welcomed the decision as a move toward accountability in response to the ICAO’s decision. This is just one more step in the direction of bringing fairness to this murder. And he sent a clear message to everyone: no matter how much money and energy Russia expels to cover up its acts, righteousness prevails,” he wrote on X.
