How Glenn Youngkin’s Miracle Became a Curse

Don’t responsible President Donald Trump for the difficulties Democrats are currently facing in November.

The second significant evaluation of the GOP’s power since Trump’s return to workplace comes this drop in New Jersey and Virginia, just before the parliamentary midterm elections in the fall.

Virginia should be favorable territory even though Republicans often anticipate an uphill battle in New Jersey, given that the GOP already has won every state office that simply four years ago with Glenn Youngkin on the ballot.

However, Youngkin and firm are about to give Virginia to the Democrats this time, no Trump.

A story of shoddy inheritance and subpar intra-party competition is what went wrong.

Republicans all over the country have to take note of the Virginia group’s self-immolation.

The big deal isn’t the sexual incident that has swept the GOP’s openly gay lieutenant governor member, John Reid.

It’s not even the part Youngkin and the Spirit of Virginia PAC leader, who has since had to withdraw, played in the botched efforts to get Reid to withdraw.

The lieutenant governor’s race, along with Reid’s visible quirks with drag queens and sex, is a show: the civilization that matters most is for chancellor. Sex and betrayal make excellent headlines.

Winsome Earle-Sears, Youngkin’s lieutenant governor, is expected to receive her move at the top of the seat because term limits prevent him from succeeding himself.

And she has: The primary is set for the following month, but she is the default nominee because Earle-Sears ‘ rivals left before the deadline to appear on the ballot.

There isn’t really a major contest for any statewide office, but business John Curran, a contender to Reid who previously gave up, is now attempting a write-in strategy.

Republicans in Virginia believe that competition is acceptable except when it comes to their individual races, just like they do in many other areas.

And the main political parties, which were up until recently the Christian right and the country club centrists, have much preferred to settle disagreements within gathering conventions rather than in primary elections.

Reid appeared unbeatable before the Youngkin group exposed his antics because he is a talk-radio host well-known to the nationalist right, but his party’s stance on him even waned until Youngkin’s cohorts changed ( and changed too soon ): Reid is still likely unmatched in the main, but he is now far weaker in the general election.

Each well-managed faction chose not to hold a major fight, so they all managed to avoid one, choosing Earle-Sears as the winner of the ticket’s marquee competition.

    That was incorrect.

Four years ago, Earle-Sears, a black woman ( and immigrant from Jamaica ), who had served in the United States Marine Corps and was outspokenly pro-gun rights, was comforting the party’s right wing.

Although she had served two times in the House of Delegates in the early 2000s, moderates might have thought of her as uneducated, but Youngkin’s accomplishments with moderates led Earle-Sears and the rest of the way to success.

Once in office, Earle-Sears made some rookie errors, including trying to appeal to the centrists who weren’t so interested in her and losing support from right-wingers, particularly when she started to voice her opinions on federal politicians.

” I couldn’t stand him.” She explained to Fox News in 2022 about the possibility of another Trump pay for the White House.” I really don’t.

A real leader recognizes the moment when they have grown ineffective, she said.

By the time Trump locked up the GOP nomination for president last year, she had changed, but MAGA voters had already done the injury.

The end result was that Earle-Sears continued to be in a strong position to challenge but is ill-equipped to increase conventional support or defeat moderates in the same way Youngkin did.

Her answer to the Reid discussion has alienated both those who want to run for lieutenant government and those who want to run away:

” John Reid has been chosen as the Republican nomination for Lieutenant.” Governor. He has the sole authority to decide whether to proceed, she said on Twitter. We each have a different race to work.

In all first polls, she trails Abigail Spanberger, the rumored Democratic candidate, by almost 7 points on average.

In a dynamic major, Reid and Earle-Sears both required the same level of scrutiny.

The future nominees might have been weaker under a hard primary, but they would scarcely be weaker than they are today, and early disclosure of their vulnerabilities might have helped the party choose better.

Elections can be erratic, but if the GOP wants to avoid a defeat the following month, it will have to place its candidates under stricter scrutiny than Virginia primaries.
