University claims party violated its agreement to promote physical morality
A Jewish school in New York has once more been closed down by school leaders.
The recently permitted club called” Hareni” was shut down by Yeshiva University.
A March agreement between the school and the league required the organization to refrain from supporting the LGBT agenda. The university’s attorney wrote a letter to the students on May 9 that stated that they had broken the agreement by referring to Hareni as a” progression of the Pride Alliance.”
According to a joint statement, the team was required to “operate in accordance with the approved recommendations of Yeshiva University’s top rabbi” and “in the heart of a collaborative and mutually supportive school society.” The team” seeks to help LGBTQ pupils and their allies,” according to the statement.
The conflict is the most recent advancement that dates back at least until at least 2022, when disagreements over the group’s identification reached the Supreme Court.
According to the school’s lawyer, the group’s new social media posts have violated “rabbinically approved instructions.” Hareni, according to the letter, allegedly broke the agreement by not using a rabbi’s advice.
Additionally, the text stated:
Your clients even specifically objected to the rabbis ‘ mandated appreciation of sexual ethics being printed on posters and communications, calling the priests ‘ directive “egregious.” Then, according to your clients, the rabbis ‘ simple request to maintain” traditional halachic standards of sexual morality” improperly “equat[es ] an identity with sexual immorality” and thus” sexualizes students and forgets every other aspect of them as a person” improperly “equat[es]es]es an identity with sexual immorality” violates the rabbis ‘ basic idea of” the rabbis” as a person.
According to a letter to the school in May 8, the Transgender team has a different viewpoint.
The email accused Yeshiva officers of being “animus and hostile” toward the students.
School authorities criticized LGBT philosophy in the text, calling it a “heretical, hedonistic theory that champions and honors all forms of physical deviance.” Additionally, according to school officials, the settlement requires the club to declare its physical morality in public.
These statements “violate the lawsuit contract,” according to the group’s lawyer, and” threaten the security and well-being of LGBTQ students on campus.”
Additionally, each side contests Hareni’s status as a host and the person it eventually reports to.
One conservative critic who has followed the story is wary that there will be a quality despite the fact that both lawyers requested a letter to resolve their differences.
The Gay team is a” pride’club,” Jane Coleman wrote for Legal Insurrection.” Because, no matter what fresh title they give it, the Gay membership is a’ pride’club. And for YU, whether “liar” is permitted by Jewish law is “quintessentially a religious question, one that must be decided by the Roshei Yeshiva on an ongoing basis,” not by college undergrads.
