A former part of the Michigan Army National Guard was detained on Tuesday and charged with trying to carry out a “mass-shooting” at a U.S. military center in Warren, Michigan in response to an arrest by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, was accused of “attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist firm and distributing info related to a dangerous system” in a press release released on Wednesday.

The mind of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, Sue J. Bai, said,” This defendant is charged with planning a deadly attack on a U.S. military base these at home for ISIS.” ” Thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement, we halted the strike before lives were lost. We will not bother to use the Department’s full power to identify and prosecute those who attempt to harm American service members and our members.

The Justice Department said the former member of the Michigan Army National Guard disclosed to two undercover law enforcement officials that he had discussed a plan he had developed to carry out a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive &amp, Armaments Command ( TACOM) facility at the Detroit Arsenal, which is located in Warren, Michigan, in response to a criminal complaint filed against Said.

The undercover law enforcement officers made it clear in April that they would” hold out Said’s program at the course of ISIS,” according to the Justice Department.

Said “provided materials assistance to the attack plan, including providing armor-piercing ammunition and magazines for the attack, flying his drone over TACOM to perform functional reconnaissance, training the undercover employees on firearms and building Molotov cocktails for use during the attack, and planning various details of the attack, including how to activate TACOM and which building to target,” according to the Justice Department.

According to a media release from Wednesday, Said was detained on May 13 as he had planned to launch a drone in support of the “attack program” and go to a location close to TACOM.

According to the Justice Department, Said may spend up to 20 years in prison for each of the charges brought against him if found guilty.

Donald M. Holstead, Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) Counterterrorism Division, praised the FBI and its partner organizations for preventing Said’s alleged alleged plot to” carry out an attack on a military facility in support of ISIS” in a press release on Wednesday. Holstead emphasized that the FBI is still” staunch” in its efforts to stop “terrorist ideas” that target the United States and its international interests.
