According to media reports on Saturday, the indictment was cited as evidence by the prosecution that 32 suspects were facing lengthy prison sentences for the massive fire that destroyed a luxury ski resort hotel in northeastern Turkey. The Grand Kartal Hotel at the Kartalkaya skiing resort was completely destroyed by the fire on January 21. The evidence of individuals and experts cited security failures on a number of levels. In accordance with the prosecution, prosecutors in the nearby village of Bolu want 13 suspects to offer up to 1, 998 years in prison on 78 counts of “killing with possible intention,” including the restaurant’s owner, managers, board members, Bolu’s deputy mayor, deputy fire chief, and another firefighter. Additionally, they want another 19 individuals to be sentenced to prison term of up to 22 years and six months for” causing death and injury through conscious negligence,” including members of the resort’s technical and house staff as well as several exterior maintenance specialists. The event, according to the report, started at 3:17 am when a malfunctioning electrical pan plate in the third floor kitchen overheated and ignited the restaurant’s gas supply hose, causing a blaze that by 3:26 am had “exceeded stable limits.” The explosive gases and dangerous smoke that rose quickly to the upper floors were caused by the intense heat, which caused the lacquered chipboard and wooden to turn to gas. The flames then rose up the exterior wall of the building, causing the fire to spread to the wooden coating on the exterior. The accusation found that the hotel’s “emergency action plan” was ineffective, uneducated, and uneducated, and that the fire accelerated by opening the major car park doors. With 238 guests staying during the spring school holidays, the hotel experienced a fire at its busiest time of year. Many of the friends tried to climb out of the windows, and some reportedly died from their injuries while using cloths as ropes. Some victims shared the same experience, claiming that there were no fire exits, no alarms, and no healthy exits from the hotel.
