The court in Tehran announced on Sunday that Iran had sentenced three people to death and put a number of people in jail for their functions in deadly attacks on a Shiite temple. The decisions come from two shootings that occurred at the Shah Cheragh tomb in Fars territory in October 2022 and August 2023, killing 15 individuals. The Islamic State ( IS ) organization claimed responsibility for the attacks. According to Fars main justice Sadrollah Rajaei-Nasab, who was quoted by the court’s Mizan Online site,” Three of these accused were sentenced to death for aiding and abetting in’corruption on earth ‘ after proceedings” at Shiraz Revolutionary Court. He further stated that they were sentenced to 25 years in prison for “aiding and abetting in moharebeh,” making reference to the fundamental offense of animosity against God. Based on their level of cooperation and control in the Shah Cheragh criminal activities, two other alleged IS people were given sentences of 15 and 10 years in prison. Although the words of two girls were each sentenced to five decades,” they will be served under Islamic mercy, monitored by electronic ankle jewelry, and within a one-kilometer of their homes,” the statement read. Rajaei-Nasab claimed that other aspects of the case, including those involving arms prostitution, were still being looked at, and that some decisions had been turned aside for appeal to Iran’s Supreme Court. Iran executed two men in public in July 2023 for the first attack on the monument. The court reported in August 2023 that security forces had arrested nine persons, all of whom were foreigners, and afterwards sentenced a Tajik IS part to death the following quarter.
