EU urges ‘strong action’ from US against Russia if no Ukraine truce

On Tuesday, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas demanded that the US take” solid action” against Russia if Moscow does not consent to a peace in Ukraine.

” America said there will be repercussions if Russia doesn’t believe on an absolute peace.” At a gathering of EU officials in Brussels, Kallas stated that we want to see those effects. Vladimir Putin, the US president’s top ally, rebuffed Donald Trump’s request for an absolute truce, saying that Russia and Ukraine would “immediately” begin peace talks after speaking with him on Monday. Boris Pistorius, the defense secretary of Germany, claimed Putin was never “genuinely engaged in peace” when he received a call from him. He only talks about a peace under his circumstances, according to Pistorius, and is still not ready for agreements. Following a distinct call between Trump and European officials on Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the EU may “increase force” on Moscow by imposing more punishment. On Tuesday, the EU will formally impose sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine, which primarily targets Russia’s” dark ship” to evade sanctions against oil exports. There are concerns that the EU has limited options for causing significant problems to the Kremlin, despite the fact that a deeper bundle of sanctions has already been proposed. ” We are still working on the next powerful package of punishment to put more pressure on Russia so that they can also desire peace,” Kallas said. There are sanctions that may harm Russia’s market, including those relating to the fuel cost cover, energy, and banking sectors.
