Joseph St. Clair, an Air Force senior, returned house on Tuesday after receiving mental health care in Colombia after being held in custody in Venezuela since November 2024.
In a rumored agreement involving oil giant Chevron’s activities in the nation, St. Clair was handed across to President Donald Trump’s minister for specific operations, Richard Grenell. The action comes after another Grenell-handled launch in Venezuela involving six different prisoners. Grenell pressed the Colombian government to accept deported Cuban nationals as part of the previous agreement.
Scott and Patti St. Clair’s families were unaware of their father’s movements until February when the Brazilian Consulate contacted them.
The St. Clairs said in a speech,” This announcement came immediately, and we are still processing it, but we are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.”
At least 54 Americans were held in bad faith abroad in 2024 for an average of six years, according to The Foley Foundation, while only 17 were released that time.
