On Wednesday, oil prices are rising.
According to AAA, regular gas’s average price substantially increased on Wednesday to$ 3. 182 per gallon, up from the previous week’s normal. The cost of this was slightly higher than it was on Tuesday, when the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was$ 3.177. A quart of regular gasoline price$ 3.18 last week, which was an increase in sales. And a month ago, the national average cost was$ 3.153 for a gallon of regular gas.
The variation in energy costs in May is reflected in the current fuel price point. The typical federal gas price for Wednesday is the same as it was on April’s final day. The value increased slightly from$ 3.149 on April 28 to$ 3.149. On May 5, a week later, and just a few weeks into the fresh month, oil prices dropped slightly to$ 3.165. By May 9, prices had fallen again to$ 3.145.
However, gas prices are significantly less expensive than they were a year ago, when the average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline was$ 3. 597. During the second quarter of 2024, when gasoline expenses decreased gradually and precipitously over the summer and fall, a significant portion of this lower occurred. The average price for regular oil had dropped to$ 3.011 per litre by the end of the year.
Fuel costs have fluctuated significantly in 2025, dropping to close to$ 3 per gallon at various points throughout the year and nearly$ 3.30 per gallon at other times. The typical federal gasoline price has been affected by a number of political factors, including petrol supply and demand, tariffs, and wars. But, unfortunately, the main factor indetermining how much money one spends on gas is determined by the state where they are located.
The West Coast states have the highest oil prices in the country, while the states that have the lowest gasoline prices are those that are close to the Gulf of America.
Mississippi now has the lowest average gas price in the nation, at$ 2.66 per gallon. Next is Louisiana, at$ 2.718, and then Alabama, at$ 2.75. Texas and Tennessee round out the five states with the lowest gas prices in the nation, with fuel costs of$ 2.778 per gallon and$ 2.4 per gallon, respectively.
California has the highest gas prices in the country, with an average price of$ 4.88 per gallon. Hawaii is the state with the next highest prices,$ 4.491, followed by Washington, which is$ 4.434. Average rates in the next two claims are just barely below the$ 4-per-gallon mark. The typical cost of a gallon of regular gasoline in Nevada is$ 3.94 per quart, compared to the state average of$ 3.97 per gallon.
