The most amazing thing about this new humanoid robot demo is how dull it is. Tesla’s battery-powered Optimus can remove paper towels from rolls with frighteningly people precision following verbal, natural-language guidelines.

Tesla expert Milan Kovac stated on Tuesday that Tesla’s goal is to have Optimus learn how to do tasks right from online videos of people doing tasks. He claimed that Optimus” can then transfer a significant portion of the learning to the bots directly from human videos.”
Remarkable, yes, but Tesla also has a real advantage over Boston Dynamics and Agility Robotics. Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, hasn’t stopped Tesla from saying that Optimus may be” the biggest item of all time by way.”
If that seems too much, consider how Optimus is eliminating the boredom in people:

What would you like it to do first?
Genuine story.
I showed my wife another picture of Prime in motion a few weeks ago. What was the first question that Melissa had, and it was immediate:” How much does it value”?
If X is anything to go by, that seems to be a lot of women’s initial reaction.  ,
Melissa only had one query. I obviously have some.
You Optimus be taught to properly groom my frightened dogs? Change the oil I use? Clear the gutters of foliage.
I joked last week on X that” all I really need is a Roomba that can do the steps.” Who would object to a robot that can do the dishes, fold laundry, and vacuum those difficult-to-reach places and just needs to be told when, in contrast to my teenage sons?
That would be wonderful if Optimus could understand those things from watching YouTube video. However, I would have to spend more for a machine that removes pine needles from the yard and serves me a beautifully made martini straight out of the box.

There are additional inquiries, also. How can we stay away from situations like this one?
Following a coding error last week at a testing facility in China, footage claimed to show a Unitree H1 ( Full-Size Universal Humanoid Robot ) going crazy and nearly injuring two workers. photograph. twitter.com/lBcw4tPEpb— OSINTdefender ( @sentdefender ) May 4, 2025
Granted, this was not an Artificial machine deciding to kill its creators, a la Skynet. The robo-flayed men immediately hit the STOP box after making a coding error. However, it remains to be seen whether an Optimus-type machine is always one poor firmware upgrade away from going scoundrel.
My wife’s straightforward question,” How much does it price,” answers all of these questions and dreams of a chore-free life. After Tesla can produce the bots “at scale,” Musk claims he will start estimating the cost of Optimus between$ 20, 000 and$ 30,000.
She once more said,” I’d give up a vehicle for one.”
” Me, too”, I said. Do you believe we could take the machine to Home Depot along with our shopping list if we dial Waymo? Automated cars using the self-checkout system, apparently using robots.
Certainly, or nearly so,” These are the days of wonder and know.” There is no guarantee as to how long it will take Tesla to increase production large enough to lower costs for home use since Optimus won’t be available until 2026 or 2027. According to tech website CCN,” the most cutting-edge humanoid robots currently on the market cost upwards of$ 100, 000.”  ,

Domestic robots are akin to merging energy for the immediate future: they are five years away forever.
How long until Chinese monopolies overshadow the entire industry if Tesla is successful in selling Optimus for$ 20-$ 30, 000? Would Trump taxes need to be implemented to protect a young AI sector from a hostile market? Or should those who can’t manage Optimus have the option of purchasing an Prime Knockoff?
Musk predicted that Tesla will produce “genuinely valuable humanoid robots in lower production for internal use next year and, finally, high production for other companies in 2026,” according to Musk last summer. That timeline, like many of his, comes off as a little cheerful. However, human robots may prove to be just as multipurpose as humans, and sooner or later will they take the place of the currently-existing single- or limited-function industrial robots.  ,
Then they’ll travel in and get our food and us.  ,
