On Wednesday, Democratic Party member LaMonica McIver was removed from the United States House of Representatives through an established resolution passed by Republican member Nancy Mace. The decision comes two nights after the New Jersey member was charged with assaulting law enforcement on May 9 during a protest outside a detention center for immigrants in Newark, New Jersey. McIverLaw enforcement claimed that during the altercation, McIver” slammed her arm into the body of a uniform emigration official” while attempting to “restrain the agent by violently grabbing him.” She is even accused of “blocking” the arrest of Baraka, the governor, by immigration agents. Additionally, on Wednesday, a New Jersey federal judge made McIver on her own recognizance during the congresswoman’s initial court appearance on abuse costs, albeit almost from Washington. McIver has described the allegations as “absurd and ridiculous.”
