White House officials assert that the new firing of older Federal Emergency Management Agency officials won’t have an impact on the country’s ability to prepare for hurricanes.

On Wednesday, FEMA announced that 16 company executives, including acting agency second-in-command MaryAnn Tierney, may be stepping down, approximately one week before the official launch of hurricane season on June 1.

TRUMP’s REMADE WEATHER AGENCIES IN THE EYE OF THE Smart Wind: A HURRICANE See

The Department of Homeland Security, which houses the crisis firm, was the subject of a problem from White House press director Karoline Leavitt, who asserted that the Trump administration was actively assisting in the recovery of all natural disasters.

” Undoubtedly, the administration is monitoring storms and natural disasters that are happening across the country at all times, and I know this at the White House. We’re given a heads-up on those,” she told the Washington Examiner. Secretary Noem is leading that work, and the leadership is informed of those details.

DHS and FEMA leaders did not respond to requests for comment.

Trump visited the Asheville, North Carolina place about a month after one of the nation’s worst hurricanes, making FEMA a central focus throughout his last weeks of his presidential campaign for 2024. Trump claimed that the Biden administration lacked responsibility for disaster relief and cheated on a incident involving the alleged democratization of government funds involving a Florida standard.

Trump has called for the complete demise of FEMA, but he has also suggested that he wants to see other existing national agencies take over crisis preparation and relief efforts since taking office. Former Navy SEAL Cameron Hamilton, an acting FEMA executive, was fired abruptly only one day after telling Congress that, in contrast to Trump, he did not “believe it is in the best attention of the American people to reduce the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”

David Richardson, who has pledged to “run best over” company officials in an effort to undermine Trump’s wider government directives, was appointed in Trump’s place as acting administrator.

The government was” no ready” for the start of hurricane season on June 1 due to an internal FEMA letter that was first reported by CNN last year. White House officers attempted to dismiss the CNN statement by noting that Trump’s FEMA Review Council, which was” composed of leading experts in their fields,” held its first conference earlier this year.

Additionally, the White House stated that Trump did remain to” with great care and consideration” respond to requests for federal assistance from governors.

A top White House staffer said in a declaration that “he has been carefully monitoring the wind condition and the Trump Administration has been in contact with local authorities. The Trump administration is “resolute to empower and work with State and local governments to invest in their own endurance before crisis hits,” the government’s choices are transmitted directly to the government of an impacted position.
