US President Donald Trump has warned Apple in a new attack on international manufacturing that iPhones hardly made in the US could be subject to a 25 % price, and that Samsung, another smartphone manufacturer, might not be spared either. Trump said he expects Apple and its CEO Tim Cook to move production from nations like India back to the United States during a speech on Truth Social and afterward to investigators at the White House. I’ve informed Tim Cook of Apple for a while that I expect the manufacture and construction of iPhones in the United States, no in India or anywhere else, he posted Friday. If that is not the case, Apple may pay a price of at least 25 % to the US, he said in person. Additionally, Samsung and anyone who produces that product may become involved. Trump’s remarks come in response to rumors that Apple plans to manufacture the majority of its US-sold smartphones in India. Cook had previously stated in an income call earlier this month that” the majority of handsets sold in the US will include India as their country of origin.” Trump met Cook in Riyadh last week and again on Tuesday at the White House. During a visit to Qatar, Trump reportedly had a “little issue with Tim Cook.” Tim, you’re my colleague, I told him, I said. I gave you a great treatment. You’re coming in with$ 500 billion. However, I’ve heard that you’re constructing everything in India. I don’t want you to construct in India,” according to Apple and US customers. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives estimated that moving iPhone production to America would cost the business about$ 30 billion and up to ten years. The idea of Apple making smartphones in the US is a magical story that is unworkable, Ives said. If Apple tried to build its own local supply chain in Asia, the price of US-made iPhones might go up to$ 3,500, he added. According to Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management, Apple does not be able to pay the taxes in perpetuity. He remarked that “anything below 30 will likely have the majority of that raise.” However, I believe they will have to start sharing it at some point. Apple has made a$ 500 billion US investment plan to ease tensions, which includes expanding data centers in 20 states and building server facilities in Houston. Trump appears to be strong despite Apple‘s work. There are no taxes when they build their flower below. So they will be constructing flowers below, he said. Samsung, which primarily exports to South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Brazil, may face competition as well. Trump insisted that all non-US mobile production would receive the same treatment despite having departed from China years before. ” It would also be Samsung and anyone that produces that product,” he said. Trump’s request was supported by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who stated that the goal is to “bring again detail manufacturing to the US.” He also raised questions about the safety of Apple‘s semiconductor supply network.
