The progressive wish of avoiding the Electoral College may be crumbling more quickly than anyone anticipated. The left-wing alliance that thought they had found a clever solution for the Constitution is now poised to become the first position to leave the agreement, and it’s sending ripples through the state.

Maine opted to join the small only last year, which would give whoever receives the most popular vote the right to receive all of the participating state ‘ electoral votes. &nbsp,

However, the condition is now having second thoughts about things.

A bipartisan bill to remove from the compact was approved by the Maine House on Tuesday, and it is now headed for the state Senate.

This face it, this turnaround is not a coincidence. Democrats who have long been frustrated by Electoral College results they don’t like have pushed the National Popular Vote lightweight harder because it has always had a political feel. A element was undoubtedly a 2000 election, and Trump’s win in 2016 over Hillary Clinton only added to the movement’s momentum. In order to stimulate the small, liberal states like California and New York signed on, bringing the total to 209 electoral votes, still 61 little of the 270 required to do so.

The National Popular Vote Compact Case in Prequel

There were growing rumors that Trump might once more win the presidency without the popular vote in 2024, and it’s possible that this would have rekindled the public’s force to abandon the Electoral College immediately. We’ll never have to get out, though, because Trump defeated Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

But Maine’s case completely illustrates why the small was generally a bad idea. The position joined when Democrats believed Trump was not regain the popular vote. However, Trump’s incisive success in the popular vote in 2024 altered everything. Trump would have won 520 electoral votes, compared to the 312 he truly won, had the small been in place with the current members.

The humor is delightful. Democrats pushed this agreement because they believed it had completely advance the prospects for their party.

The first state in the country to divide its Electoral College votes by congressional district, according to Maine state representative Barbara Bagshaw, who co-sponsored the withdrawal costs.” This program reflects our democratic diversity and beliefs, every words, whether rural or urban. We have undermined that by adhering to the National Popular Vote Compact.

Bagshaw has a place. The only two states with congressional districts in which to divide their political vote are Nebraska and Maine are winner-take-all. This system actually guarantees meaningful representation for rural and urban voters, something that the popular vote compact would absolutely eliminate.

    Talk about lender’s regrets.

Blue says are frantically looking for the exits then that Trump has demonstrated he can get both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Make no mistake: various states may follow if Maine is successful in reversing its position. Trump merely shattered the false idea that Republicans don’t get the national popular vote entirely, which the compact was built on.

Does the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact’s close come just before this? &nbsp,
