The most recent artist to use the Confederate flag as a speech is CeeLo Green.
In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, the singer and rapper posted a Southern symbol sweater. He used the keywords” soul” and “rebel” to caption the image. Hunderte of his fans expressed disapproval of his garments choice in response.
One commenter wrote under the article,” Like you lo, but you might find snubbed.”
Another fan wrote,” You could’ve kept this one to yourself, unc.”
A photo of the Goodie Mob member with the African National flag and American flag was posted on one of the group’s another two articles on Thursday.
Green is undoubtedly not the first artist from Atlanta to use the Confederate flag, which has longer represented white supremacy. Some people have characterized it as a revolution.
The Eastside Boyz’s 2001 song” Set Yo Hood Up” features the flag prominently on the cover art for Lil Jon &. In the video for” Bia ‘ Bia,” Lil Jon also wore the flag.
Lil Jon claimed to be trying to deceive followers of the flag while also honoring his Southern history when he first spoke to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the time.
In 2001, Lil Jon told the AJC’s A. Scott Walton,” For me to use that emblem is like going out with their girls.”
We were both born and raised in the South. We all have a symbol. We simply interpret it as being proud to say that we are from the South.
In the movie for OutKast’s 2000 struck” Ms. Jackson,” André 3000 wore the flag on his belt straps.
He told Vibe magazine at the time,” I wear the pulley for southwestern pride and to fight.”” I don’t get the rebel flag that seriously when it comes to the cultural aspect,” he said.
The symbol has also been ported by another Atlanta rappers, including Pastor Troy and Ludacris.
Kanye West, who was born in Atlanta but was raised in Chicago, is perhaps the most notable instance of a Black designer supporting the symbol. The singer also sold merchandise with the Civil War-era picture in 2013, claiming that he” took the Confederate flag and made it my emblem” while wearing the symbol.
For more information, representatives for CeeLo Green could not be reached right away for more details.
