Fire cuts power to 45,000 in French Riviera, sabotage suspected

After an overnight fire at a station that cut out power to 45, 000 people and a severe outage during the Cannes film festival that was caused by damage, French Riviera authorities said Sunday that they are strengthening surveillance around energy grid sites. According to the mayor’s and local prosecutors ‘ headquarters in Nice, a fire that struck an electricity converter in the western region of the city knocked out power in the area. On X, previously Twitter, deputy president Anthony Borre wrote,” We strongly criticize the immediately strike against a Nice light transformer. The last day of the Cannes event was hampered by a five-hour power cut on Saturday, causing traffic lights, ATMs, and forcing organizers to use backup generators. According to local officials, a suspected arson attack on a station and the destruction of an energy pylon were the culprits. After the transformer incident that affected his capital, Nice governor Christian Estrosi declared,” I vehemently condemn these legal functions hitting our country.” The substation fire occurred in the city’s Moulins district, according to the Nice prosecutor’s office, which added that “in the upcoming days we are strengthening the ( security camera ) network around the city’s strategic electric sites.” According to leaders and the Enedis network organization, power was restored at sunrise.
