Germany   makes its first military deployment worldwide since World War II. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made a visit to Lithuania on the situation of the establishment of a European equipped brigade to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. This is the first permanent military implementation abroad since World War II; it is significant because it aims to deter potential Russian aggression against , Lithuania, and the other European states,  , Estonia, and , Latvia, which are becoming more and more involved about , and Moscow’s.
The president said that” Russia, as it is today,” and that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, also spoke in Vilnius, poses a danger to everyone. We are defending ourselves against this danger, which is why we are here today.
Although Germany has participated in foreign missions, its post-war peacenik tradition has previously limiting its primary military involvement. Thus, the Bundeswehr’s formation of this regiment marks a previously unheard turning point in the post-war time. The choice is a part of a wider trend of members of NATO and other NATO countries increasing their protection budgets in response to concerns about potential Russian aggression and American pressure.
Merz claimed that” Germany , is heavily investing in its own armed forces” in addition to the new regiment. We also want to sign to our friends that we are now making significant investments in our stability, he added. Along with our associates, we are determined to protect the alliance’s country from any anger. Our safety is also our protection, just like the security of our European allies.
In 2022, then-Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged to increase German defence spending to the target of 2 % of GDP, and announced the establishment of a special account for the development of the Bundeswehr.
