After European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised to accelerate up trade deals, President Donald Trump announced that he had promised to extend the European Union‘s authority to deal with a looming 50 % price.
Trump stated in a Truth Social post on Sunday that the new date for a business offer would become July 9, saying it was his “privilege” to grant the extension.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, contacted me now asking for an extension to the June 1st date for the 50 % tax in regards to business and the European Union. It was a pleasure for me to consent to the improvement, which ends on July 9, 2025. Discussions will start right away, according to the Commission President. I appreciate you paying attention to this issue. he stated.

The 50 % tax improvement is a significant change from the two days prior, when Trump advocated the levy after claiming business negotiations between the two were “nowhere”. The U.S. president had first set a date of June 1 for negotiations between the EU and the US in order for the large tariff to go into effect.
Von der Leyen described the conversation with Trump as “good” and said” Europe is ready to expand discussions quickly and decisively” shortly before Trump’s statement on Sunday.
