General Motors Co. is investing$ 888 million into a factory close to Buffalo, New York, to produce V-8 vehicles for full-size SUVs and vehicles, the firm announced on Tuesday.

As the plant gears up to begin producing the next generation of V-8 vehicles in 2027, the cash injection into Tonawanda Propulsion will pay for new equipment, tools, resources, repairs, and.

The news comes as GM wrestles with President Donald Trump’s demand to increase American manufacturing or pay hefty transfer fees that are levied on imported cars and auto parts made outside of the US.

Our major investments in GM’s Tonawanda Propulsion grow demonstrate our commitment to supporting American developing and supporting jobs in the United States, according to CEO Mary Barra in a statement. The Buffalo flower of GM has been in operation for 87 years and is working to improve the machines we build there. This will enable us to provide world-class cars and Cars to our clients for years to come.

In an effort to increase production of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra cabs, the firm invested$ 70 million in the facility in 2020.

The next GM engine plant to produce sixth-generation V-8 motors is Tonawanda. The manufacturer spent another$ 500 million to prepare its Flint Engine plant for production in 2023, citing new fire and thermal management innovations as evidenced by the company’s claim that the company will produce motors that will be” stronger than yesterday’s motors while benefiting fuel business and reducing emissions.”

According to Tara Wasik, flower director at Tonawanda,” This expense marks an exciting new chapter for our grow.” Our staff has demonstrated its dedication to producing quality for generations. We are grateful for the chance to support the community in Western New York and remain committed to providing our customers with world-class engine methods.

Tuesday, the United Auto Workers regional chairman received a request for comment from Detroit News, but it was not immediately returned.
