Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that the U.S. State Department and the Department of Homeland Security would “aggressively withdraw visas for Taiwanese students, including those with links to the Chinese Communist Party or those studying in critical grounds.”

He further stated that” we may also change the visa requirements to improve the attention of all upcoming requests for visas from Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China,”

The brief speech, titled” New Visa Laws Put America First, Never China,” contained no further information. It did not specify which” important areas” would be affected.

The Trump administration’s decision to end conversations for fresh student visa comes a day after the Trump administration begins to expand social internet screening for all potential applicants.

Judicial parts should not add any extra student or exchange visitor ( F, M and J) visa interview power until further assistance, which we anticipate in the coming weeks, according to Rubio.

According to The New York Times, the improvements “certainly will cause resentment among American university campuses and cause discrimination there.”

The second-largest group of international students in the United States are based in China, and several colleges rely on Foreign and other foreign students to pay full tuition, according to the report.

Most Chinese Communist Party leaders ‘ families have access to American institutions up until now. In recent years,” the Times” reported that numerous major party leaders have sent children to American universities.

The GOP has been on the fence about concerns about Chinese spying at one of America’s leading institutions for more than ten years.

Concerns about the safety of U.S.-China university partnerships were raised in a report from the 2024 House council, which warned that these collaborations are assisting international scientific and defense advancements.

More than 280 colleges and universities reported in an April 24 content in Inside Higher Ed that over 1, 800 individuals have lost their F-1 or J-1 standing student applicants as a result of President Trump’s post on April 24.
