'Rehearsing for real deal': Hegseth says China preparing to invade Taiwan, reshape Indo-Pacific

Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense of the United States, made a warning on Saturday that China was preparing to apply pressure to raise its standing in the Indo-Pacific. Hegseth stated at the monthly security community, Shangri-La Dialogue, that Beijing was” convincingly preparing to use military power to change the Indo-Pacific’s balance of power.” Hegseth said,” China poses a genuine risk that is imminent, and Beijing hopes to rule and rule” Asia. Hegseth also made a further warning about China’s possible invasion of Taiwan, stating that the Chinese forces were “rehearsing for the real deal” and were” building capacity, training every day, and building capacity. China has a stated objective of attempting to annex Taiwan by force if necessary by 2027. He even raised questions about China’s efforts to expand its influence over the Panama Canal, particularly given its growing presence in Latin America.

Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense of the United States, speaks at the Shangri-La summit in Singapore.

Due to Beijing’s danger, the Pentagon commander urged US allies, especially those in Asia, to increase their defense investing. Hegseth, who quoted pacts made by Nato members, including Germany, to “move toward US president Donald Trump’s investing goal of five percentage of GDP,” as:” It’s hard to believe a little bit that I’m saying this, but thanks to leader Trump, Asian allies may appear to countries in Europe for a new example. ” Deterrence doesn’t appear on the inexpensive,” he continued. The US remained committed to its allies, and the Pentagon’s captain said that India and Japan had begun to work together and have a closer relationship. Hegseth likewise warned that nations trying to strike a balance between the US military aid and Chinese economic assets are” taking a substantial spend”. Avoid the advantages the Chinese Communist Party has from these tangles, he warned. Usually, China attends this monthly security conference along with its defense minister. In what appeared to be a political bash, President Trump’s uncertain tax laws continue to stir up tensions.
